Hunter's
Offshoot Pinot Noir 2020 750ml
This Pinot Noir is an excellent example of a fruit forward Marlborough Pinot Noir. The wine shows fresh cherry fruit notes that flow seemingly onto the palate with plum and wild berries. Soft tannins compliment blackcurrant notes on the palate that extends to a supple finish. Drink now and up to 5 years+
VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The 2020 growing season was one to remember for the amazing weather conditions in Marlborough. During Summer and Autumn, we had warm and dry conditions throughout, allowing for clean fruit and an early start to the vintage. These conditions resulted in grapes that were picked with good natural acidity relative to their sugar and flavour ripeness. 2020 will prove to be an exceptional vintage.
VINIFICATION
Grapes were grown at our Home Block on Rapaura Road. The vines are 30 years old and 10/5 clone, one of the original Pinot Noir clones imported to New Zealand. This clone has widely been discarded for red wine production however we are seeing wines of exceptional quality as the vines get older. The fruit was handpicked and partially destemmed before being fermented in an open top fermenter. 40% whole clusters were used in the ferment to cut through the richness of the clone.
The wine was pressed off and aged in French oak barrels for 15 months. No fining was done on this wine and the wine is unfiltered. Sulphur was added to the wine just before bottling.

A floral bouquet precedes aromas and flavours of red berries and cherry, a fine saline and gravel mineral quality, fresh red apple skin and delicate baking spices of oak. Complex and textured on the palate with a satin mouthfeel that moves to fine grained tannins and medium+ acidity for freshness carrying the core fruit and mineral attributes. Baking spices are consistent, and a lees quality emerges after a time. Well made, youthful still and with best drinking from 2023 through 2029.

Aromas of wild red flowers fruits and berries then classic scent and dark red apple skin with a suggestion of peach. There’s a fine savoury mineral suggestion that repeats on the palate. Youthful, firm and dry with flavours that mirror the bouquet, ripe, fine tannins and plenty of acidity. Lovely long finish, a little bit wild and a whole lot of charm. Best drinking from today and through 2027+
