Classic NZ Wine & Food Trail 2026/2027
What is it?
The Classic New Zealand Wine & Food Trail (CNZWFT) connects Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay, and Marlborough, showcasing some of New Zealand's leading wine, food, and tourism experiences. Following the success of previous campaigns, the 2026 Classic New Zealand Wine & Food Trail promotion continues to encourage Australian travellers to discover these regions, visit participating wineries, and experience New Zealand's ultimate wine and food journey.
The campaign targets Australia's 4.7 million "Active Considerers" – travellers with a strong interest in food, wine, and road-trip experiences. Through partnerships with major travel platforms, airlines, and Tourism New Zealand's 100% Pure New Zealand brand, it aims to inspire travel and drive bookings across the trail and its participating businesses.
Wine Collective Direct is New Zealand's producer-direct wine shipping platform offering a unique opportunity to deliver over 900 wines from the three CNZWFT regions direct to the door of Australian consumers.
CNZWFT will offer free freight to Australian addresses with the purchase of a full case of wine. This removes a key barrier to purchase for trans-Tasman visitors, encouraging higher-value transactions on-site. It also strengthens the link between wine tourism and export sales, extending the economic impact beyond the visit.
Watch the video and consult the FAQs below for more on the mechanics of this promotion.
How do I get involved?
Wine Producers
If you are registered with WCD and active, you're good to go! If not, please register here asap - you can read more on how it works here.
Stay engaged with your RTO and attend info sessions. They will share updates on the campaign as it progresses, and collateral closer to go-live time.
In addition to promoting the Free Shipping offer (1x 15-bottle case to AUS), you could list a deal on Newzealand.com and list your cellar door on Tripadvisor (must be commissionable).
Tour Operators
You can email your company name and an email address to WCD, so we can add you to our database. This means if a customer selects you as their tour operator in the WCD checkout, we can email you a summary of the producers the customer purchased from, how many bottles, and the wine value. We can also provide deeper insights, on request.

This initiative has been created to assist in boosting visitation to our cellar doors, and as a by-product of that, encourage sales from your cellar doors to our manuhiri.
It is designed to be an incentive for our Australian visitors travelling on the Classic NZ Wine & Food Trail throughout Oct 26 - Jan 27.
While the cart is designed that clients can add wine as they travel, it has the added benefit that travellers can also decide to purchase wine from their tours when they get back home. However, it is not designed to be a free-freight deal for a winery’s Aussie-based existing clients who have no intention to travel.
The campaign is running from 1 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 (or until sold out). We expect to see visitors in-market from October.
This offer covers free shipping for WCD's physical 15 bottle case size, which fits 15 standard 750ml bottles.
You are welcome to add magnums to your case, however note they take 3 bottle spaces instead of 1. There are also some 750ml bottles which take up more space in the case, such as heavy format sparkling wines. Indicated on the bottle will be the number of spaces it takes, so you can make the most of the offer.
Campaign Success Tips for Producers
You can bookmark this info page on your cellar door POS & devices and click here for direct offer access.
Make sure you have enough CNZWFT collateral out and about for staff and visitors to consult at your cellar door, restaurant, tasting lounge, etc.. The QR code scans straight to the WCD page where the offer can be shopped by your visitors. Ask your RTO if you need more collateral.
Ask managers to take 1 minute during every pre-shift debriefing to remind staff about the offer and review the process to complete purchase. Encourage them to identify who is visiting from Australia. Highlight the offer verbally to all Australian visitors in addition to handing or pointing out collateral to scan.
43% of cases sold under the promotion so far are mixed producer. We highly encourage you to drop your minimum order quantity on the platform to 1 bottle for the duration of the promotion. This lowers the barrier to purchase on the offer. If you do maintain an MOQ, please have your team communicate this clearly to your visitors to avoid their disappointment when putting together orders on the platform. This advice comes from customer feedback due to MOQs.
Did you have Australian visitors book an experience online or signup for your email list on their visit? Link to the CNZWFT offer page in a “thanks for coming” follow-up email. (Always ensure you have legal right to contact visitors first.)
