Askerne
Estate Chardonnay 2025 750ml
WINEMAKING NOTES
The fruit for this wine is a blend of Clones Mendoza (30%), Clone 548 (28%), Clone 15 (26%), Clone 95 (10%) and Clone 1066 (6%) grown on the sandy silt soils of the lower terrace of the Askerne vineyard. Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed, the juice was transferred to barrel for fermentation. The barrels were half wild fermented and half inoculated, with 85% of the blend completing malolactic fermentation, and the 15% balance left without, to provide freshness to the blend. The wine was aged for 9 months on full lees to add volume and complexity, then blended and held in tank for a further 6 months prior to finishing and bottling. The final blend has a 25% new French oak component.

TASTING NOTE
The aromas are wonderfully concentrated with sweet vanillin oak spice, citrus blossom fragrance, peach crumble, topped with lemon curd notes and subtle nutty nuances. The palate is juicy and rich, full of concentrated citrus and stone fruit flavours on a textural, concentrated, and bright palate that delivers wonderful length.
