MCDONALD PINOT GRIS 2023

Grown on our Matapiro Vineyard, at 200m elevation, this variety thrives in the cooler conditions.

The fruit is harvested once very ripe and some shrivel has started to occur; at this stage, the grapes develop much more flavour potential and produce very aromatic wines.

This wine is fermented in Oak Cuves (tanks) because the oak adds subtle complexity, richness and a slightly old world feel to the wine, without imparting overt oak characters. The wine is then left in the Oak Cuves for 6 months on the yeast lees, further enhancing the textural quality.

Appealing ripe pear, rose petal, ginger and warm spice aromas are evident on the nose, complimented by subtle creamy complexity on the palate.

Full bodied and lush with a moderate level of sweetness balanced by gentle acidity.

It has a great ability to match to a wide array of food styles, because of it’s subtle sweetness and body, such as sweet / savoury contrasts in a pairing with pork belly. It is also great with blue cheese, pate, prosciutto, and many south east Asian inspired dishes.
