Welcome to French Peak's e-cellar door

French Peak is the oldest vineyard in Banks Peninsula and based in the centre of an extinct volcano. The top of the vineyard is at an altitude of 80m and it is only 700m from the sea. It has been run using organic and biodynamic principles since 2016 and in 2022 we applied for BioGro certification so you can be guaranteed of the organic foundations of the wines. In 2022 we also moved from spur to cane pruning and as a result have seen a big difference in the number of grapes growing on the vines (of which there are around 9,000).

At French Peak we offer Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Rose. As we are a small, family owned business, we produce a very limited number of bottles each harvest season. We sell both online and from our cellar door and are very lucky to almost sell out each year, taking pride in seeing our award winning wines enjoyed by our customers.

We offer wine tastings in our Cellar Door on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with both indoor and outdoor seating. Most of our outdoor seating comes with big parasols to protect you from the infamous NZ sun's UV

A perfect activity in any weather, bring your friends and experience genuine hospitality in one of the most peaceful and scenic locations on the peninsula that so many have fallen in love with.

Reviews

French Peak Chardonnay 2023, Banks Peninsula, North Canterbury NZ
Shiny medium gold in colour, medium bodied, nice legs / tears too. In the nose, ripe stone-fruit, nectarine, pineapple & a hint of vanilla. A fruit forward palate reflecting the nose with a lovely acid drive, slightly creamy supporting bright stone-fruit, tropical fruit & grapefruit citrus flavours. Nicely textured & balanced, juicy dry finish. Still young – needs time.

French Peak Pinot Noir 2023 Banks Peninsula North Canterbury NZ
Quite transparent light cherry-red in colour, lighter bodied. Fragrant aromas of red summer berries, cherry, subtle spice & a slight herb note in the nose. A fresh lively palate, lots of berries & plum fruit, fine acid / tannin / oak influence and a hint of savoury / earth. Light, bright fruit-driven pinot. Long dry finish.
