The Basket Case 2021 750ml

Red berries, baked nuts, clove spice and ripe herbal notes, with a touch of French oak aromatically. The palate is dry with flavours of plum, black berries, dry herb bouquet garni, olive tapenade and violets. Ample tannin and balanced acidity will support the core of fruit in its ageing potential. An enticing wine to accompany red meat dishes and/or earthy vegetarian meals. Cellaring to early 2030’s.

 

The winter of 2020 was relatively mild and dry. Spring was early, however a frost in late spring caused damage to some new buds, resulting in heavily reduced yields. Conditions throughout the growing season were relatively dry and warm with infrequent rains. Daytime temperatures stayed range bound from mid to late twenties. These relatively cool to warm, dry conditions allowed for slow grape maturation and excellent fruit aromas and flavours. Harvest took place over two weekswith 1.7T of Merlot on April 2 nd , approx. 150kg of Malbec on April 8 th and approx. 150kgs of Cabernet Franc on April 14 th . The Field Blend was fermented together in an open top fermentor.
