The Basket Case Pinot Noir 2021 750ml

Fresh and varietal cherry, dark plum and boysenberry fruit aromatics. Nutmeg and a delicate whole bunch perfume too with clay and liquorice. Structured and powerful palate

with layers of red berries, cherry flesh, fruit, and wood spice with a savoury dried herb bouquet garni on the palate. Structure along with fresh acidity will see this wine unwind

and bloom with cellaring. Cellar through to late 2020’s.

 

Late spring frosts in Marlborough, followed by challenging weather throughout flowering resulted in moderate crops throughout the region. A warm and stable end to the growing season ensured the moderate volume of fruit was able to ripen uniformly and through to ideal physiological ripeness. The fruit was harvested by hand on March 10 th and transported to Auckland overnight on a refrigerated truck. 5% whole berries, 10% whole bunches and the balance, entirely destemmed underwent wild fermentation and light plunging over 18 days. The wine then spent 14 months in new and old French oak prior to bottling.
