SAORSA WINES

Saorsa. A term to describe a radical sense of freedom that represents our philosophy completely. Our aim is to produce honest and sincere wines that are free to sing their own song and truly express themselves and the sites they are grown. Wines of great balance and texture, using what nature provides… time and thought.

Freedom – Liberty – Salvation

Here at Saorsa Wines we make small production wines by hand in the beautiful Hawke’s Bay. We select specific sites that not only have the greatest attributes for exceptional quality but also a unique individuality that manifests in the wine itself. Production is with the lightest of hands, in a traditional manner using everything the grapes bring with them without industrial manipulation and additives.

Our wines are made in extremely small quantities and normally only avilable in NZ. Here you can enjoy our wines internationally with our e-Cellar Door!

¡NO PASARÁN! Syrah 2021

94 Points

Excellent

An enticing bouquet of five spice and dark berry fruit scents, black currant and violet, blackberry, a touch of red peppercorn and olive then baking spices. On the palate, a dry textured and core black fruited wine touches the palate first followed by textures from tannins and acidity. Plenty of length and a decent concentration give pause for reflection on flavours and textures. A wine true to the variety and excellent winemaking. Delicious, dry, fruity, varietal and fresh. Best drinking from late 2024 through 2030. Decant for service.

¡NO PASARÁN! Syrah 2021

Metro Magazine Top 50 Wines of 2024

"Saorsa is produced by husband and wife team Alex Hendry and Hana Montaperto-Hendry. I pointed this out last year, but it bears repeating: having wines from small producers like this one jostle and outpreform wineries with so much more at their disposal is no mean achievement. ¡NO PASARÁN! is an anti-fascist rallying cry from the Spanish Civil War, adopted by Alex and Hana to underscore their commitment. It's a glorious bottle of wine with broody, smokey and even violet noteson the nose giving way to sweet-fruit palate with lovely texture and poise."

Saorsa Syrah

"Really quite profound in a rock n' roll kinda way. Much more reminisant of Hermitage than the Heretaunga Plains. All the rough edges are endurining, elegance and power that just unravels layer upon layer. This is Hawke's Bay, but not as you know it."
