Bienvenue á Clos Henri Vineyard

Nestled under the southern foothills of Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, Clos Henri is the wine estate meticulously established and organically run by the famous Sancerre wine growing family of Henri Bourgeois.

Combining 10 generations of winegrowing know-how from the Bourgeois family, Clos Henri crafts textural and elegant wines from the three different soil types of the estate. The family uses the best of French and New World winegrowing techniques to capture the essence of Marlborough’s intense character and reveal the unique identity and depth of the Clos Henri terroir.

“Our ultimate objective is to offer a wine that tells you the story of its origin, whispers he is not French but Marlborough and voices he is a craft from the specific Clos Henri terroir” says Arnaud Bourgeois, General Manager.

Clos Henri uses natural methods from the vineyard to the winery, practices dry farming and is a proud member of MANA: Marlborough Natural Winegrowers. The estate has been fully certified organic since harvest of 2013. Through our organic management of the estate, it is our commitment at Clos Henri to show respect for the terroir through the respect of the land. We believe organic practices preserve our place, retaining healthy and alive soils for future generations to carry on our passion of traditional winegrowing.

In order to grow Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir that express the peculiarities of our three unique soil types on the estate, reducing the inputs that could alter the flavour and quality of the wines was inevitable. Clos Henri believes organic practices bring out the best in the fruit, the vineyard and produce the finest wines which truly express their terroir. It also shows vintage variation which is one of the most interesting parts of winemaking. As you taste the wine, it tells you the story of its life and its origins.

This is so polished and concentrated. It has superbly fresh lime, passion fruit and guava, as well as some fresh herbs and wet stones. The palate has attractively detailed and focused flavors with a zesty, fresh line of acidity and plenty of intense, lively and refreshing lime and passion-fruit flavor. Sleek and polished.

"This biodynamic Marlborough producer's latest releases are on fire and none blazes brighter than this crazy affordable Pinot. Right off the bat it's balanced and limpid, needing no decanting and barely any swirling to reveal its charms. The aromas are layered and luminous in red fruit, savory spices, dried flowers and a crushed stone minerality. In the mouth, the pristine fruit is embraced by a filigree of talc-like tannins. There's elegance and poise amidst the quiet power of the fine grained tannins."
