The Marlborist Chardonnay 2024 750ml

The unsung hero of Marlborough and a variety truly deserving of noble status, The Marlborist Chardonnay strikes a perfect balance between power and purity, a result of old vines and low intervention winemaking.

The Marlborist Chardonnay 2023

This is a fascinating discovery, and it showed more exoticism and layers than expected, with a beautiful texture that enchanted my senses.  Classy and refined, this is a must-taste wine if you like silky Saint-Vérans or willowy Viré-Clessés.

Matthew Jukes, First XV NZ New Release Tasting, MATTHEWJUKES.COM

The 2023 Chardonnay is fragrant, light and floral, with green apple, a hint of kiwi fruit and feijoa, ocean spray and spring blossoms.  On the palate, the wine is elegant and restrained, with finely tuck-pointed acidity and phenolics.  The oak is a subtle structural and textural support rather than overt feature.  This wine is quiet, in its way, attractive and good.  13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

91 Points – Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, ROBERTPARKER.COM

Fruity and delicious with apple puree and hints of pie crust with some vanilla cream as well as nice interplay between tangy and fresh acidity. Medium body. Drink now. Screw cap. 91 points - James Suckling, JAMESSUCKLING.COM

The Marlborist’s 2023 Chardonnay is smart and saline, with a piercing line of acidity running through its textural core.  This has a barrel-fermented style that provides toasted nut flavours alongside the grapefruit-like apple fruit notes.  It is a shade more delicate than medium-bodied, with an element of richness on the mid-palate alongside delicate pastry notes pointing to its extended lees aging.  Thoughtfully constructed, this relatively new producer is forging a growing reputation.

91 Points – Rebecca Gibb MW, VINOUS.COM

The Marlborist Chardonnay is a rich, dry elegant wine that is both intricate and textural with an enticing combination of roasted hazelnuts, brioche, lemon curd and white-fleshed nectarine with hints of clove spice and vanilla. This is a finely balanced wine with a creamy palate underpinned by a long, citrus finish.
