No.1 Family Estate e-cellar door

Pioneers of Méthode Traditionelle in New Zealand for over 40 years, Adele and Daniel Le Brun launched No.1 Family Estate, their family-owned winery, in July 1997.

Steeped in history and tradition, Daniel Le Brun hails from 12 generations of Champagne vignerons. The First record of a Le Brun planting vines in Champagne is 1684. The date 1791 is carved into the historic family press, the year the Le Brun’s first started producing wine in Champagne.

Today, No.1 Family Estate is committed exclusively to producing premium Méthode Traditionelle. Daniel's team craft their wines in Marlborough, in the traditional method of his homeland.

The No.1 winery and vineyard is set in Marlborough’s beautiful Wairau Valley. The combination of soils and climate, that is consistent every year, reminds Daniel of Champagne in its best vintage years.

No.1 Rosé NV 95/100

Pinot Noir Rosé with over 2 years on lees. Charming, elegant sparkling rosé with an appealing thread of strawberry flavour together with subtle nutty yeast lees characters. Dry but with a nuance of fruit sweetness. Truly mouth-watering wine.

No.1 Reserve NV 97/100

There’s no mistaking complexity and panache as the bouquet of this wine unfurls and as it begins to open out on the nose scents of a fully developed autolysis, baked bread, oatmeal and brioche are revealed. Peach then orange peel, yellow apple then pressed white flowers, a fine and complex autolysis. On the palate an equally complex wine with a depth and breadth that grows as the wine becomes more ambient, flavours of baked goods and stone fruits laced with a lees spice and fresh citrus quality showcase all this wine has to offer. Rich in flavour and character, complex, lengthy and dry. The mousse carries a plush texture framed with acidity and softness. A fantastic wine.
