Our wines are inspired by the values we hold close to us. They are made for sharing, and our practices from the vineyard to your hands are guided by our culture. Our dedication to producing outstanding wine is deeply engrained in our duty to care for the land.  We create award winning wine while remaining true to our deeply held values, which include rangatiratanga, kaitiakitanga and manaakitanga – excellence, guardianship and kindness.

Since 1998, Tohu has focused on producing estate grown, single vineyard wines from New Zealand’s premier grape growing regions. The Tohu winemaking philosophy is to create wines that capture the flavours of each region’s unique environment, while upholding respect and protection of the land for future generations.

Today, Tohu is acknowledged as He mātāmua taketake - the original, the first Māori-owned and operated wine label. Our wine is enjoyed by people all over the world. 

Every Tohu bottle carries our distinctive logo, derived from a koru pattern. For Māori, the koru symbolises growth, life and the natural world, and our logo celebrates this iconic spiral. It represents the growth of our company and the journey of our people from the past to today. This koru signifies our long-term intergenerational goals and has become our tohu, our signature.

Our wines are made to share. They honour people, culture and the land. 

Tohu Wines is part of Kono, a Māori, whānau-owned company based in Te Tauihu , the top of the South Island. With more than 4000 owner families, our purpose is to preserve and enhance our taonga for present and future generations. Thoughtfulness, kindness and hospitality are central to our identity as Māori. We value people above all things.

One of our core values, manaakitanga, encapsulates care and respect for people and relationships, including the natural environment. It governs the way we interact with one another. An essential part of Māori culture is our desire to feed and nurture people. Sharing food is a traditional way of bringing people together. We demonstrate our love and respect for people by providing them with outstanding food and wine.


















"A bouquet packed with pinosity - aromas of red apple and rose, tea and red cherry. Spices of clove and vanilla are intense with a French oak toasty wood complexity. Delicious on the plate, quite dry with firm tannins and plenty of acidity. The core of fruits and oak with some minerality layer in. A youthful wine, varietal, medium weight and complex. Decant for service with best drinking late 2021 through 2027"

Tohu Whenua Awa Awatere Valley Marlborough Chardonnay 2017 - Layered with grapefruit sweet candied orange. Hints of toast. Concentration of fruit, a wine with lots of complexity.

Tohu Rewa Blanc de Blanc Méthode Traditionnelle 2015 - A bright lemon-coloured wine with a persistent bead. Aromas of lime flower and gunflint yield to ripe citrus flavours which brighten the soft creamy and toasty notes. A polished and structured style with an elegant finish.
