Welcome to Moutere Hills e-cellar door

First planted in 1993, we are a small boutique vineyard producing approximately 30 tonnes grapes annually. The vineyard is dry farmed on Moutere clay gravels which have incredible moisture retention properties. We produce a large number of varietals which are mainly sold through the cellar door and local restaurants. Our winemaking is a hands off approach with minimal intervention resulting in expressive and aromatic wines with fine tannins and a beautiful minerality.

Wines on offer at the vineyard include chardonnay, pinot gris, riesling, viognier, chenin blanc, pinot noir, merlot, syrah, rose, sauvignon blanc and a methode.


Moutere Hills 2018 Sarau Chardonnay


Rich and flavoursome chardonnay with peach, ginger, cream, baguette crust, and subtle spicy oak. A delicious smooth-textured wine, with a gentle backbone of peppery tannins. Accessible now but no rush.

Moutere Hills 2019 Syrah

4.5 *

A top example of South Island Syrah, the 2019 vintage (4.5*) is a youthful, estate-grown red, matured in French and American oak casks. Full-coloured, it is mouthfilling, vibrant and supple, with blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, showing excellent ripeness, vigour and depth, and a very harmonious, sustained finish. Best drinking 2022+.
