Our Bessie’s Rosé is inspired by the elegant and fragrant wines of the Mediterranean coastline, with a distinctive Central Otago twist. Aromatics of fleshy white peach, persimmon and cherry blossom are complemented by an array of orchard fruits and ruby grapefruit on the palate. An attractive mineral salinity accompanies the refreshingly lengthy finish making this the perfect crowd pleaser. The fruit for our Bessie’s Rose is from a single vineyard in Pisa, named for the eponymous range that defines the western edge of Central Otago’s Cromwell Basin. Located between this range and the shores of Lake Dunstan, the Pisa subregion is renowned for producing lush, vibrant Pinot Noir with attractive savoury characteristics and ripe, fine tannins. Soils are complex, well drained loams and schistose gravels that produce fragrant, mineral driven fruit perfectly suited to this style of rosé. The 2026 Central Otago vintage was one that rewarded patience and precision. A frost-free spring gave way to one of the coolest growing seasons in more than a decade, with lower heat accumulation, slightly elevated rainfall, and a later, compressed harvest shaping the year’s character. While challenging conditions during flowering reduced yields across parts of the region, particularly in higher elevation sites, the season ultimately delivered wines of remarkable poise and authenticity. Bessie's, 2026 reflects the qualities we value most in Central Otago: vibrant natural acidity, textural complexity and a purity of fruit that speaks clearly of place. Less about power and generosity, this is a vintage defined by elegance, detail and quiet confidence, offering wines with exceptional balance, persistence and cellar-worthy potential.
