Sam Kim - Wine Orbit

97/100  5 stars

A magnificent offering, the enticing bouquet shows blackberry, dark plum, clove, cracked pepper,

and roasted hazelnut aromas. The concentrated palate delivers refined texture and plush

mouthfeel, backed by finely infused tannins, leading to an expansive, gratifying finish. The wine

displays outstanding depth and persistence with power and poise simultaneously. At its best:

2027 to 2039.

96 Points - Outstanding

Opaque and deeply purple core persistent to the rim where is becomes fuchsia. An intense and ripe fruited bouquet of black currant and blue plums, layers of smoke and dark earth, new leather and baking spices, violets and baked wild berry pie. A bouquet of complexity and intensity. On the palate equally complex and rather delicious, dark fruited as the bouquet suggests, lots of wild berries the blue fruits, then barrel spices and texture. An abundance of ripe polished tannins, a backbone of acidity and core red fruit flavours deliver a wine of substance and complexity, youthful and potential. The lengthy and persistent finish alone suggest a wine that should be cellared. Best drinking window from 2029 through 2040+.

94/100 - 4 stars

Very youthful, liqueur-like aromas of cassis, violet candy and blackberry coulis with a hint of clove, this bursts on the mid-weight palate in a cascade of concentrated, sweet purple/black fruit, juicy acidity and finely submerged spicy, peppery tannins which build in intensity across the finish. Excellent balance and poise though entirely primary at this stage and deceptively approachable. The generous dollop of smooth, friendly flavour belies an innate complexity and coiled muscularity which hides under the puppy fat. Enjoy it now for its charm or give it a few years in the cellar to develop gamy, peppery complexity over the mid-term
