Welcome to Mt Rosa Wines

About us 

Mt Rosa Vineyard was originally the ram paddock for the 80,000 hectare Kawarau Station. In 1998 we sent the sheep off to greener pastures, planted some vines and began our new story in wine.

Now a well-established vineyard, Mt Rosa is still proudly family owned and operated, and produces award-winning wines for everyone to enjoy!

We're pretty proud of our little patch and the wines we produce. We'd love to share them with you and your friends - come and visit us in Gibbston when you get the chance.  For now, order up and enjoy a taste of Mt Rosa at home. 

Mt Rosa is now a well-established single-estate vineyard, producing over five varietals of award-winning wines.  
 

Our Winemaker

Dean has been with Mt Rosa from the beginning. Dean’s approach is a natural one and prefers to intervene as little as possible. The vineyard is at a stage now that the wines are truly reflecting the character of their environment. They're really starting to ‘hit their straps’ says Dean.

Dean holds a Post-graduate degree in Viticulture and Wine Science and has made wine in Champagne, Burgundy, Alsace, Austria, Italy and South Africa.

We truly value his authenticity and his character as these reflect our philosophy and of course, our wines!
 

The varietals

We planted our first grapes in 2000.  These were established Sauvignon Blanc vines from Felton Road which we harvested in 2001.  After that came Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.  To try something different, we planted Pinot Blanc and Gamay.
