Welcome to Quartz Reef e-cellar door

Quartz Reef farm holistically, with full organic & biodynamic certification. Our aim is to craft engaging wines that tell a story, that capture the extraordinary beauty & energy of our landscape and express this with purity & precision in your glass.

In the heart of Central Otago, Quartz Reef specialises in creating exceptional Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Methode Traditionnelle

Sitting in prime location as the pioneer of Bendigo, our sun-drenched Quartz Reef Estate vineyard is BioGro certified organic and Demeter certified biodynamic. Our grapes are hand-harvested and vinified with a respectful and non-interventive philosophy, combined with the vision of Rudi Bauer to express our sense of place.

We produce our Estate Grown Methode Traditionnelle Non-Vintage and Vintage, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. All Quartz Reef wines benefit greatly from Rudi Bauer’s Austrian heritage exploring the many dimensions of the varieties.

 Pinot Gris 2020 - Awarded 5 Stars

"Certified organic and biodynamic, the 2020 vintage (4.5*) was estate-grown at Bendigo, hand-picked, tank-fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured on its yeast lees for eight months. Scented and full-bodied, it is still very youthful, with vibrant, citrusy, peachy, gently spicy flavours, showing excellent delicacy, fresh acidity, and a finely poised, fully dry, persistent finish. Best drinking 2022+."

 Pinot Rose 2020 - Awarded 93 Points

"Medium tint. Dry, flavoursome rosé with raspberry, cherry and honeysuckle flavours supported by fresh acidity and gentle tannins. A charming, assertive wine with a pleasantly lingering finish."

Vintage Blanc de Blancs 2013 - Awarded 96 Points

"There’s no mistaking the complexity, delicacy and detail in the bouquet with aromas of sweet citrus, white flowers and white fleshed tree fruits. There’s a core of extended lees autolysis with a toasty brioche and whole wheat bread aromas. Fantastic on the palate with even more complexity than the nose suggests, flavours that mirror the nose and a fine mousse. Lengthy finish. Excellent drinking."
